Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Nicola King has had a breakdown following her attack in Emmerdale.

Nicola is lucky to be alive after she was mugged by a gang of teenage girls while leaving a night out with Bernice and Laurel. Wednesday's episode (June 15) picked up with Nicola in the hospital.

Conferring with Nicola's medical team, Laurel was relieved that the wounds were only superficial and could have been much worse.

"Like we're supposed to be grateful. It shouldn't have happened at all," Jimmy grumbled.

Nicola soon woke up but hid the truth from Jimmy by claiming she didn't remember what happened. Later, Gabby found a disturbing video online that showed her being beaten.

Once she was home, Nicola had trouble reliving the attack while giving her official statement to Harriet Finch.

As Harriet tried to calm any fears, Nicola expressed concern that the gang could return since they stole her wallet (and thus have her address).

"Obviously, if you're worried about anything, just call us straight away," Harriet offered.

Once the detective showed herself out, Nicola broke down into tears as she admitted to being in abject terror during the attack.

"I felt so useless," she explained. "I thought that was it. I wouldn't see the kids again."

Will Nicola's attackers ever be caught?

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
