Emmerdale boss Iain MacLeod has dropped a huge hint that there'll be a second wedding storyline for Robert Sugden and Aaron Dingle.

Robert springs a surprise wedding on Aaron at The Woolpack next week, but even though Harriet Finch oversees the proceedings, it's not actually a legal ceremony as it's been arranged at such short notice.

Some Robron fans have already expressed their anger that the couple's long-awaited wedding day isn't 100% official, but it seems that good things come to those who wait. Phew...

Speaking to Digital Spy and other media at an Emmerdale press event, Iain explained: "You will have inferred that it's not an 'official wedding', so a little sneaky part of me thought we could have two bites of the cherry here.

"There are no firm plans for part two in place, but it feels like in time they will want to sign and seal the deal legally."

Confirming that his vision for the first Robron wedding was "chaotic", Iain laughed: "We thought we could have some fun with this one and make it Dingle-tastic. It also gets quite intimate and heartfelt.

"The chaos makes way for a very intimate, very delicate and very honest ceremony that's super heartfelt.

"The vision was to go quite bonkers with it and inflict something on them that they'd never choose! This big spectacle that gets more and more tasteless as it goes on, but to find room over a couple of episodes to do something in keeping with their personalities and true to the origins of their relationship.

"We sort of want to have our wedding cake and eat it."

With the Robron fanbase growing more passionate by the day, Iain also confessed that he does feel the pressure to keep them happy. We're not surprised!

He laughed: "You'd have to be a robot not to feel some sort of pressure from the Robron fans. They are so passionate so loyal. They will hunt me down and beat me to death if we didn't pay off what they wanted!

"Part of good drama is to understand want the audience wants, make them wait for it, and not necessarily give them the easiest route from A to B. Robert and Aaron have survived a hell of a lot of challenges over the years and it will continue to be like that.

"But ultimately, whatever happens, I feel that they are the love of each others' lives and I believe that. Whatever else might happen, the long-term destination will eventually see them coming back together whatever they go through.

"So I do feel a certain amount of pressure from the Robron fans. You don't meet fans that are that passionate that often. But I don't engage on social media – I survey it from behind a curtain!"

Emmerdale airs the Robron wedding episodes on Monday and Tuesday (February 20 and 21) at 7pm on ITV.
