Emmys 2017: James Corden slammed for kissing controversial political aide Sean Spicer
James Corden has fallen out of favour with some of his fans after a photo of him kissing controversial Sean Spicer appeared online after last night’s Emmy Awards.
Spicer is Donald Trump’s former White House press secretary who resigned from his position in July of this year after making a series of shocking or false public statements – including seemingly denying that Hitler had gassed people during the Holocaust.
As a result, his surprise appearance at last night’s Emmys was highly controversial, with the celebrity audience unable to hide their shock when Spicer appeared behind a podium during host Stephen Colbert’s opening monologue.
Parodying his false claim about Trump’s lacklustre inauguration, Spicer quipped: “This will be the largest audience to witness the Emmys, period – both in person and around the world.”
However, viewers at home were unimpressed by the Emmys’ attempt to make light of the 45-year-old political aide’s scandalous reign as press secretary, arguing that as a “Trump defendant” he should not be celebrated:
Steve Bannon got a 60 Minutes feature & Sean Spicer got an #Emmys cameo, but Hillary Clinton needs to "shut up & go away"? Mmkay.

The only acceptable reason to invite Sean Spicer on stage is to have a trap door open up under him

Sean Spicer is not funny or forgiven. If you lie in the name of fascism you are permanently stained. Go away.

Acting like Sean Spicer is just another funny guy is the same blurring of entertainment and politics that led to Trump becoming president.

Five months ago, Sean Spicer denied that Hitler gassed people during the Holocaust. Sorry, but I'm not seeing the humor in that… https://t.co/6ChkFMjl6X

White supremacy is Sean Spicer instantly becoming a mainstream media darling shortly after being part of a toxic administration.

Late Late Show host James also felt the wrath of viewers, with many chastising the British star for posing for a jovial photo with Spicer in spite of his scandalous behaviour:
Get James Corden outta here. Did he kiss Sean Spicer. Gross.

Saw a picture of James Corden being all pally with Sean Spicer and now I'm angry. Let's forgive he lied to the American people, yeah?

Fuck James Corden and quite frankly every celebrity taking happy photos with Sean Spicer.

Corden makes Spicer look like a beacon of honour and sincerity. It's like Kimmel ruffling Trump's hair all over again: proper enablers

Although he posed for the photo, James has not posted the image to any of his personal social media accounts, nor has he publicly commented on Spicer’s divisive appearance.
