Empty tents pitched near the sea were checked by police officers on patrol.

Weymouth neighbourhood officers from Dorset Police investigated the tents at Greenhill, Weymouth, on the morning of Wednesday, May 31, following reports by residents.

After finding that the tents were empty they were flagged for removal by the local authority, a police spokesman said.

"We've been out at Greenhill this morning following up on reports by local residents of some new tents that pitched up at the weekend.

"The tents have been checked and are empty, they have been flagged for the local authority for removal if necessary."

The neighbourhood officers also 'swept' common anti-social behaviour spots and referred a 'vulnerable homeless' man for emergency housing through Weymouth's homeless outreach charities.
