Endeavour TV series is filmed 'for the last time' in Oxford

It's the end of an era as Inspector Morse prequel Endeavour has, according to insiders, finished filming in Oxford for good.

Film crews were in the city earlier this month and now new photos have emerged from what is thought to be the last filming sessions for Oxford's famous fictional detective.

Location trucks were first spotted at the Kings Centre on the Osney Mead industrial estate and some scenes were filmed in and around Radcliffe Square.

Then film crews moved to shoot scenes at Parson's Pleasure, St John's Street and Turl Street, where Shaun Evans is pictured near a joke shop.

ITV has confirmed that Endeavour series 9 will be the last series, and now filming has finished in Oxford a few scenes will be completed in other locations.

The Inspector Morse spin-off starring Shaun Evans and Roger Allam launched in 2012 and scenes have been shot on location in the city ever since.

The long-running Morse franchise, based on the novels of Colin Dexter, will finally come to an end, once the latest three episodes are screened.

In a statement, ITV said earlier: "After 10 phenomenally successful years, producers Mammoth Screen, and screenwriter Russell Lewis, Shaun Evans and Roger Allam have mutually decided to bring the internationally renowned Endeavour to a close, and the series currently filming in Oxford will be the last.

"ITV’s drama commissioning team respectfully accepts this creative decision and would like to extend heartfelt thanks to everyone associated with Endeavour who have made the drama such a well loved part of the UK’s drama landscape.

"ITV would particularly like to thank Damien Timmer, Russell Lewis, Shaun Evans and Roger Allam who have created television history following in the footsteps of Morse’s acclaimed creator, the late, great, Colin Dexter and the much missed John Thaw."

Since filming began for ITV’s Inspector Morse episodes in the late 1980s, film crews for Inspector Morse, Lewis and Endeavour have been a familiar sight on the streets of Oxford.

Executive producer Damien Timmer said on behalf of producers, Mammoth Screen earlier: "Endeavour has been a real labour of love for all of us, and we salute Russell Lewis for his extraordinary achievement in chronicling Endeavour Morse’s coming of age across 72 hours of TV.

ITV has not yet confirmed when the final series will be filmed but it could be as late as February 2023.
