Injury news: Rashford sits out first World Cup training session

England's Marcus Rashford sits out first World Cup training session with knee injury

Marcus Rashford has been forced to sit out England's first training session of the World Cup due to a minor knee injury.

The Manchester United striker, who shone with a man of the match performance in the final friendly against Costa Rica last week, picked up a knock in the Three Lions final training session on home soil before heading for the World Cup.

Gareth Southgate and his 23-man squad arrived at their training base for the summer in Repino on Tuesday night, having played out an 11-a-side training game on Monday where Rashford picked up the knock.

Speaking to the BBC having just stepped off the plane, Southgate said: “Marcus took a slight knock, but nothing too serious.

“We’ll have a look at that ahead of tomorrow’s session.”

There are no other injury concerns for Southgate as his side get settled on the Russian coast.

England begin their World Cup campaign in Volgograd against Tunisia on Monday, June 18 before taking on Panama in Nizhny Novgorod and rounding off the group stages in Kaliningrad against Belgium.
