England have won the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup after defeating India in the final at Lord's.

The Home of Cricket was sold out for the final, and the hosts did not disappoint the packed stands as they became World Champions for the fourth time.

England had set a target of 228 for India to chase, who often looked comfortable in their pursuit. A 95-run partnership between Harmanpreet Kaur and Poonam Rout then put India firmly in control.

Anya Shrubsole was then the star with figures of 6-46 that saw England's opponents fall from 191-3 to 219 all-out, and therefore short of their target.

It marks the end of a magnificent tournament for the English team, who had been defeated by their fellow finalists in the opening fixture nearly a month ago.

They have won every game since then, including a historic victory over Australia, which was their first in the World Cup since 1993.

There have been some incredible performances throughout the team, with five of the batters scoring hundreds which fired England to the final.

Scores of 377 and 373 against Pakistan and South Africa respectively served as evidence that this England team was one of the strongest in the competition.

Having topped the qualifying group, England defeated South Africa by two wickets in their semi-final with just two balls to spare.

Heather Knight was then able to lead her team out at Lord's in the final where they prevailed over India and became World Champions for the first time since 2009.
