Liam Dawson came in from the cold to take his place in England's World Cup squad, with Joe Denly and David Willey missing the cut.

Dawson, the Hampshire spinner, played the last of his three one-day internationals in October and was not involved in the recent 4-0 series win over Pakistan.

Both Denly and Willey were named in last month's provisional 15 but both men have seen their tournament dreams dashed.

Denly had been lined up as a utility option in the squad, a flexible batsman and a late-blooming leg-spinner, but England have used him sparingly as a bowler. Head coach Trevor Bayliss has admitted that Dawson's slow left-arm spin is more reliable and a strong show in the Royal London Cup has pushed him over the line.

Willey, meanwhile, has paid for the emergence of the exciting Jofra Archer. The Barbados-born quick was yet to make his debut when the preliminary selection was made but swiftly became a must-pick after acing his early auditions on the international stage.

The third and final alteration from the initial squad became a necessity when Alex Hales was discarded following off-field indiscretions. James Vince was added in as his replacement ahead of the Pakistan series and holds his place.

England opens its home World Cup on May 30 against South Africa at the Oval.

That's a wrap for today

Let's catch up again on Thursday May 30 when that England squad takes on South Africa for the opening match of the 2019 Cricket World Cup.

10:11AM

England team in emoji form

The ECB promised us an alternative social media announcement. First there was the video team announcement and now here's a different take on things. To be fair, there's some rather clever ones in there.

10:06AM

Batting  tips too!

He's really giving us an insight into what it takes to be a top cricketer. When it comes to batting, Jofra states 'I can give it a whack'.

I'm not one dimensional. But hopefully I'm not needed too much in the tournament, the top order is really strong.

10:04AM

Secret's out...

Jofra says 'you've got to get in the gym and look after your body' to bowl fast. So there you have it everyone, that's what you've got to do to be a speed demon.

Hmmm, think there may be a bit more to it than that.

10:03AM

'I've been welcomed with open arms'

To be honest, international cricket is probably the same intensity as the IPL. It's different but then it isn't different.

Everyone has welcomed me with open arms since I got in. It's a great set up. It's probably one of the better teams I've played in

10:02AM

'Really exiting to be a part of a big summer'

I got a call from Ed Smith about 6pm. I was actually driving at the time. It's really exciting to be a part of a big summer for English cricket.

I put it in my head that I would have to wait seven years. It changed in December. I was always prepared to wait.

I think I'm ready. I know how to deal with pressure, crowds.

Jofra speaks

England's speed demon is about to talk to Sky Sports..

9:45AM

Hussain agrees with Dawson inclusion

Denly was a part of the squad for the victorious series against Pakistan but he's been leapfrogged by Liam Dawson. Hussain, though, thinks it's the right call.

Say you get to a semi-final on a tired pitch and then Moeen Ali has a stomach upset. You don't want to replace him but you just want your second best spinner available. Liam Dawson is that.

Denly is a batter who bowls a big of leg spin. So I think they've gone the right way with Dawson.

9:41AM

Nasser Hussain happy with World Cup squad

That is a phenomenal line up, he tells Sky Sports. Inclined to agree with you there Nasser.

He also says selectors have made the right call with Jofra Archer, calling him a 'game-changer'.

9:39AM

Smith's signs off with a note of optimism

Clearly this squad is good enough to win the World Cup. There are no guarantees in elite sport we know that.

Preparations have been good but now the real fun happens, the players take over.

9:38AM

Adil Rashid has 'a little niggle'

Ed Smith reveals Adil Rashid has a slight injury niggle with Liam Dawson's inclusion also covering that off. He got the nod ahead of Joe Denly.

Liam Dawson was always in contention, he was in the side in West Indies and then got injured.

Adil Rashid has a little niggle, hopefully he will be fine. But Dawson then covers us, rather than one of your batting reserves.

Ultimately there was a desire to have that cover position more towards the spin bowler.

9:36AM

Smith on Jofra Archer

We've seen Jofra play against Pakistan. We've seen the team perform with him in the side.

I don't anticipate any issues with including him.

It's clear he brings different things to the squad. He has pace, bounce, he is an outstanding talent.

9:35AM

Ed Smith continues

I spoke to David, I spoke to the players yesterday. He is an outstanding man, very honest and dignified.

He is extremely unfortunate to miss out

9:34AM

Here's national selector Ed Smith...

On David Willey being left out

It was a very difficult decision. The situation we were in, we had more players we wanted to fit in that we were allowed to.

David has been a big part of the one-day squad that has had such a good run but someone had to miss out.

It was extremely difficult to leave one out. The new ball area is strong at the minute and David is very unfortunate to miss out.

9:32AM

Two drop out

From the preliminary squad that was announced last month, Kent’s Joe Denly and Yorkshire’s David Willey miss out on selection. Both featured in the recent one-day series with Pakistan

9:31AM

Three changes from preliminary squad

Sussex’s Jofra Archer is called up after his debut in the Royal London ODI series against Pakistan. The 24-year-old fast bowler played two matches in England’s four-nil series victory over the past month.

Hampshire’s Liam Dawson returns to the England set-up for the first time since sustaining a side strain during October’s limited-overs tour of Sri Lanka. The 29-year-old left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder has been in fine form for his county, claiming 18 wickets and averaging 45 with the bat during Hampshire’s run to the Royal London One-Day Cup final.

James Vince, the classy Hampshire top-order batsman, is also included having played his part during the Royal London ODI series against Pakistan. The 28-year-old will be looking to add to his 10 caps during the tournament.

Who is Jofra Archer?

With just a few moments left before the squad reveal, here's a quick intro to Jofra Archer.

24 years old, has played three one-day internationals, bowling just 22 overs for England.

Shortage of swing?

It is understood David Willey will be the one to miss out, despite playing 46 one-day internationals in England's rise from World Cup disaster in 2015 to the top of the rankings.

Scyld Berry, cricket journalist of the year no less, has looked at why captain Eoin Morgan may live to regret his omission later down the line. You can read his piece here

9:20AM

England team announcement incoming...

In just nine days time, England and South Africa will be going through their final preparations at the Oval ahead of the first game of the 2019 Cricket World Cup. Amazing how quickly it has come around.

But first, we need to know final England squad that selectors have decided can try and bring the trophy home for the hosts. That we shall know at 09.30am so not long to go now.

Much of the discussions have been around who gets the nod when it comes to the bowling department. Jofra Archer is tipped to cap a remarkable rise by being named as the spearhead fast bowler. But David Willey is poised to be squeezed out. Then Liam Dawson is understood to have been picked ahead of Joe Denly.

We've also been promised some fancy social media announcements around the squad by the ECB as well as the shiny new kit reveal. Stand by, I'm guaranteeing fun...
