Warwickshire seamer Olly Stone has been handed his first England call-up for next month’s one-day tour of Sri Lanka.

The 24-year-old, in Championship action against Sussex today, could play ahead of Liam Plunkett, who is in the 16-man squad but will miss the first three of five ODIs for his wedding.

Yorkshire all-rounder David Willey misses out on selection due to the back injury that has curtailed his season, but the star of the Test summer, Sam Curran, is in the squad and will be optimistic of adding to his solitary ODI cap alongside brother Tom, who has taken 12 wickets in eight matches for England.

Hampshire’s Liam Dawson is back in the fold as the back-up spinner to Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid.

The squad fly to Colombo on September 30 ahead of the first ODI in Dambulla on October 10. One T20 will follow before the three-Test series in November.

England ODI squad for Sri Lanka: Eoin Morgan (captain), Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Tom Curran, Liam Dawson, Alex Hales, Liam Plunkett, Adel Rashid, Joe Root, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, Olly Stone, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood.
