Aston Villa's Ezri Konsa looks set to be handed a start for England tonight as Gareth Southgate's team appeared to be leaked ahead of their crunch quarter-final clash against Switzerland.

Konsa is primed to start in a three-man defence as Gareth Southgate reshuffles his pack for the clash against the Swiss after an underwhelming victory over Slovakia.

Konsa is tipped to replace Marc Guehi in the centre of defence with the latter suspended but in the team that is doing the rounds, there is no place in the side for Villa team-mate Ollie Watkins with Harry Kane set to lead the line.

According to reports, Southgate is set to go to a 3-4-2-1 formation with Bukayo Saka and Kieran Trippier as wing-backs. Phil Foden and Jude Bellingham will play as number 10s, with Kobbie Mainoo and Declan Rice in midfield.

It is a big game for Konsa but former Villa boss Dean Smith feels there won't be any issues.

"I was amazed he didn't get in the England squad sooner that he did," Smith told the Daily Mail. "When I was at Villa, I was getting worried. His dad has Portuguese roots and I knew Portugal were tapping him up to investigate whether he would be eligible.

"If he plays in a back three for England it won't faze him. He did it for me at both Brentford and Villa, and most teams build up in a three in the modern game. He's efficient with the ball and he doesn't overplay. When people see him they'll just think 'Yeah, he's a really good defender."
