England have taken a huge step forward in their Women's Euro 2017 campaign with a 2-0 win over Spain thanks to goals from Chelsea's Fran Kirby and Arsenal's Jodie Taylor.

After Scotland's 2-1 defeat to Portugal earlier in the day, this victory means that England are top of group D and need just one point in their next game to confirm their progress to the quarter-finals.

Kirby got England off to the perfect start with a crisp low finish into the bottom corner within two minutes.

It was the perfect start and ensure England could build on the momentum gained from the 6-0 win over Scotland earlier in the week.

Spain were unlucky not to get a penalty late in the second half, with the referee overturning her handball decision leaving both teams bemused.

Taylor, fresh from her hat-heroics against Scotland, was on hand to finish the game off in the closing stages and put the Lionesses in a strong position in the tournament.
