England got their UEFA Women’s EURO 2017 off to the perfect start with a dominant 6-0 win over rivals Scotland.

Jodie Taylor was the star of the show as she netted a hat-trick, consistently getting in behind the offside trap and finishing with style.

The Lioness’ were three goals to the good at half-time.The first two came from Taylor and the third was a rebound from Ellen White as a performance full of energy and style put England out of reach early on.

Scotland, to their credit, continued to push England in the second half but were unable to find the net before Taylor made the game safe just before the hour.

A thumping first time volley from Jordan Nobbs late on was another moment of sheer quality as she hammered a dipping ball into the top-right hand corner. A late header from new Barcelona signing Toni Duggan then made in the last seconds of the match.

Spain and Portugal are the two other teams in Group D that England must navigate their way past, but more performances like this will see Mark Sampson’s team go deep into the competition.

Hosts Netherlands, holders Germany and France would provide stiff competition, but in a summer where the England youth teams have performed so well it is now seemingly the turn of the Women’s team to do their country proud.
