Enterprise student wins Alabama Spelling Bee; advances to national competition

(WDHN) — An Enterprise student had a huge weekend in the Birmingham area, as he won the state’s spelling bee, which guarantees him a spot in the national competition at the nation’s capital.

Ayden Nguyen, an Enterprise City School student, participated in the state spelling bee where students up to the 8th grade compete. Ayden won the Alabama Spelling Bee after 17 rounds with his champion word of ‘dysphagia’.

Ayden now advances to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May in Washington, D.C. to represent Alabama. The Alabama District of Kiwanis Foundation will cover all his expenses when he travels to D.C. in May.

Ayden’s family tells WDHN that he is excited about competing in the nation’s capital.
