Environment Agency issues several flood alerts in the region for early hours of Thursday morning
The Environment Agency has issued several flood alerts in the region for the early hours of Thursday morning. The government agency has warned of high tide levels at the Northumberland Coast, the Tyne and Wear Coast and the Tyne estuary.
All three areas have been put into the category of 'Flooding is Possible', with the potential of the flooding of roads and low lying land. No property flooding is expected, and the same message has been issued in each one of the places specified.
The Environment Agency statement is as follows: "Highest tide level is expected to be at beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads at 3:30 AM on 17/10/2024. Flooding is possible for around 2 hours either side of this time.

"Waves are forecast to overtop coastal defences at beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads. We are closely monitoring the situation and checking flood defences.
"Be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous."
The specific areas that have been issued with a warning are:
Northumberland Coast: North Sea from Berwick to St Mary's Lighthouse.
Tyne and Wear Coast: North Sea from St Mary's Lighthouse to Crimdon Park, North Hartlepool.
Tyne estuary from Wylam to the North Sea coast, including Watergate Car Park at Newcastle Quayside.
