"Magical musical" Beauty and the Beast is coming to Plymouth next year - brought to life by the city's talented young performers. It is one of 17 upcoming shows at Theatre Royal Plymouth that can now be booked - with everything from West End smash hits to festive extravaganzas for all the family.

The "tale as old as time" is the classic story of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end, and he will be transformed into his former self.

The show is the latest amateur production from Plymkids Theatre Company, which has previously performed the likes of Les Misérables, Legally Blonde and We Will Rock You. The theatre company promises it's a "magical musical not to be missed".

Beauty and The Beast will be on at the The Drum stage at the Theatre Royal from January 21-25, 2025. Tickets start from £12 and are available here.

The musical is one of the amateur productions from talented local theatre groups coming to the stage very soon. WCP Theatre Company will celebrate its 95th anniversary by bringing beloved comedy series The Vicar of Dibley to the Theatre Royal in January. And The Tamaritans will stage psychological thriller The Girl on the Train in the same month.

Next year will also see Pete Townshend's cult classic Quadrophenia coming to the stage as a "mod ballet". And Bat Out Of Hell, featuring the music of Jim Steinman and Meat Loaf, will be in Plymouth in May as the show makes a return to the UK.
