EPL Table: 2017-18 Premier League standings for gameweek 6

Brighton secured a 1-0 victory over in-form Newcastle at the Amex Stadium to pull clear of the early season relegation scrap.

Tomer Hemed scored the Seagulls' only goal in the 51st minute as Chris Hughton gained revenge over the side who sacked him in December 2010.

On Saturday Manchester City retained the league's top spot as they dispatched Crystal Palace at Etihad Stadium.

The Eagles are still yet to score a goal in the league this season after losing 5-0 to Pep Guardiola's men thanks to goals from Raheem Sterling, Leroy Sane, Sergio Aguero and Fabian Delph.

Manchester United kept up the heat on their neighbours with a narrow 1-0 victory over Southampton at St. Mary's, while Chelsea thrashed Stoke 4-0 at the Bet365 Stadium. Liverpool beat Leicester 3-2 in the late game.

Elsewhere, Watford beat Swansea 2-1 to jump into fifth and Everton eased their troubles with a comeback win over Bournemouth, who remain in the drop zone. Burnley and Huddersfield played out a goalless draw at Turf Moor.

Harry Kane scored twice as 10-man Tottenham moved up to third in the Premier League table with a derby win over West Ham on Saturday lunchtime.

The Hammers were edging the game until Michail Antonio was forced off with a suspected groin injury and Slaven Bilic opted to change the setup with the introduction of Andy Carroll. Less than 10 minutes later, following two clumsy mistakes from the substitute, and Harry Kane scored twice and were cruising at half-time.

Christian Eriksen added a third on the hour mark which looked to settle matters before Javier Hernandez scored and Serge Aurier picked up a second yellow card, a first red card for Spurs in 84 Premier League games, to set up a frantic finale. Cheikhou Kouyate added a second but it was not enough.
