Tottenham began their pre-season on Wednesday with a 6-0 win over Southend United played behind closed doors.

Erik Lamela opened the scoring at just seven minutes when combining with Lucas Moura down the right before slotting home past Mark Oxley in the Shrimpers goal.

Fernando Llorente doubles Spurs' advantage four minutes later as Fernando Llorente volleyed home from close range after Serge Aurier's deflected cross fell kindly for the striker.

Lamela got his second midway through the first half when again Lucas made good progress down the right with Aurier before finding Lamela for another smart finish.

The Argentine turned provider soon after. After linking up with Ben Davies on the left flank, Lucas was spotted in the centre to convert.

Lamela completed his hat-trick before the half was out after yet more fine work from Lucas and Aurier out wide.

A much quieter second half featured just one goal but again Lamela was key, splitting the Southend defence for Tashan Oakley-Boothe to control and finish.
