It is a relief to see Ant McPartlin speak out about his troubles with addiction. He is a human being first, and that comes before his job.

Society has set its standards too high, and God forbid we weren’t able to reach its expectations.

I suffered for the best part of my twenties and I only managed to escape the pressures of “fitting in” by intoxicating my body with anything that gave me immunity. If you did a survey, it is likely you would find half the country has to cope with some form of addiction.

McPartlin’s admission will be gratifying for everyone else who has been through or is going through what he has had to cope with. It shows that no one — not even celebrities — are exempt from or impervious to the perils of addiction.
