ES Views Letter of the Day: Leyton Orient's plight a warning to others

Fans have called for chairman Francesco Becchetti to invest to save the club from financial ruin: Getty Images

As a Leyton Orient fan from afar, it has been devastating to witness the plight of my club [“London’s second oldest club is facing oblivion”, March 1].

Ever since Francesco Becchetti took over the club the uncertainty off the pitch has quickly transferred to performances on it.

We have gone from a penalty shootout in the League One play-off final to the brink of losing our Football League membership after 112 years. To make things worse, the club’s financial troubles are now coming to the fore.

Let this be a warning to any club considering selling to a foreign investor: it will only end in tears.
