ES Views Letter of the Day: North Korea is best left alone

Show of strength: the USS Carl Vinson was sent to monitor waters off the Korean peninsula

What is the American Government up to with all the sabre-rattling against North Korea?

Perhaps it should remember that the US, France, Australia and Britain all tested and stored nuclear weapons in the Fifties and Sixties. Yet when North Korea chooses to test its rockets the US is outraged, demanding “appropriate action must be taken”.

I wonder what the Trump administration deems to be “appropriate” action, after it recently dropped what is termed the “mother of all bombs” in Afghanistan? Almost 100 Islamic State militants may have been killed in the attack, according to Afghan officials, but was it really worth the expense?

By threatening to attack North Korea, President Trump risks starting another war like that in Vietnam. Leave North Korea alone — and stop trying to be the world’s policeman.
