ESPN's Joe Tessitore on the call as his son makes key play in Boston College-Clemson game

The first half of the Boston College vs. Clemson game featured quite a moment for the Tessitore family.

ESPN announcer Joe Tessitore, back working college football games after two years in the “Monday Night Football” booth, was on the call for BC’s trip to Death Valley. The assignment was special for Tessitore because his son, John, plays for the Eagles.

John Tessitore is a redshirt sophomore who serves as both a kicker and a punter for Boston College. He is also his team’s starting holder, and he was right in the middle of a big play late in the second quarter.

Clemson, the No. 1 team in the country, was playing without star quarterback Trevor Lawrence and fell behind BC 21-10. BC was looking to add to that lead before halftime, but a drive stalled inside the Clemson 30. At that point, the field goal unit came on the field and Tessitore was right in the middle of a big play with his dad on the call.

Instead of trying a 40-yard field goal, Tessitore shifted under center and ran a hard count, drawing Clemson offside. Since it was a fourth-and-2 play, the penalty gave Boston College a first down.

“Tessitore is under center!”

How cool is that?

And on the very next play, Boston College made Clemson pay for its mistake. Phil Jurkovec looked to the end zone and found C.J. Lewis, who maintained his concentration and made a juggling, highlight-reel touchdown catch.

All in all, that was a heck of a sequence for Boston College. Clemson, however, was able to rally in the second half and pull out a 34-28 victory.
