It's the one product that you can find in just about anyone's beauty arsenal, whether you go full-glam or you prefer a more subtle look. But not all mascaras deliver on their promise to lift, curl and define your lashes — no matter how expensive they are. And, according to TikTok and, more importantly, Amazon shoppers, the best mascara doesn't cost much at all: just $5.
We're talking about Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect Mascara and not only is it Amazon’s #1 best-selling mascara with more than 180,000 five-star reviews, it's also #1 on Amazon's Movers and Shakers list. The buzz doesn't stop there: A tube is of this mascara is sold every ten seconds, which all but guarantees that it's worth the hype.
“I have bought so many different brands of mascara over the years and to date, essence Lash Princess is my favorite. And for the price, it cannot be beaten,” wrote a reviewer, who gave it five stars.
So, what makes this TikTok-famous mascara a step above the rest? For starters, it’s a reasonable $5 and available on Amazon Prime, which is always a bonus. But the formula is also ophthalmologist-tested and delivers everything you could want from a mascara.
The conic shaped-brush at the end of the wand seamlessly glides through each lash to coat it from root to tip. And there’s a reason for its “False Lash Effect” moniker: Just one coat is all it takes to achieve long, voluminous, defined and clump-free lashes.
One happy shopper raved that it's better than high-end mascaras. "After using Lights, Camera, Lashes by Tarte for the past year, I got tired of breaking the bank over mascara," they wrote. “My sister suggested Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect and I IMMEDIATELY fell in love. It provides dramatic length and great volume. I can honestly say I can’t stop looking at my eyelashes in the mirror every single day because of how awesome they look. Also, it is very long wearing. I go from an 8 hour work day right to the gym and sweat like crazy...and this stuff doesn’t budge! I love it!!”
The glowing “best mascara ever” reviews didn’t stop there either.
As this reviewer pointed out, it’s a great product for someone with straight or sparse lashes, too. “I've tried multiple mascaras,” they wrote. “[This one] coats easily, doesn't flake or smudge and holds my curl. One of the most frustrating things is curling your straight lashes, (I even heat my curler slightly with my hair dryer), and having your mascara immediately straighten them out....Why pay a fortune when this works!”
And even though it’s not waterproof, don’t expect it to budge or smudge in the humidity, as one reviewer noted. “Easy to apply and the mascara makes your lashes look stunning and long. Holds up very well, too. In fact even in a humid climate you'll still look awesome after a long day. No need to reapply every few hours. I also very much like that it was not tested on animals. I have sensitive eyes and this mascara doesn't bother me at all.”
