Essex to be battered by rain as Met Office issues 17-hour yellow weather warning
Residents could see power cuts and travel delays, as the Met Office has issued a 17-hour yellow weather warning for heavy rain across Essex. There is a yellow warning for rain from 5pm tomorrow (September 26) to 10am on Friday (September 27) covering a large part of southern England, including all of Essex.
Heavy rain is expected to bring the potential for some flooding and disruption to transport from tomorrow evening and overnight into late Friday morning. The Met Office says that heavy rain could result in some disruption with communities potentially cut off by flooded roads, possible power cuts, spray and flooding leading to difficult driving conditions and delays or cancellations to some public transport services.

A spokesperson from the Met Office said: "Whilst some areas will miss the worst, areas of heavy, showery rain are expected to become widespread across a swathe of England and Wales during Thursday evening and on into Friday morning. There is some uncertainty in the details, but some locations may see up 20-30 mm of rain in 2-3 hours and perhaps 40-60 mm in 4-6 hours.
"Lightning and strong, gusty winds may be additional hazards, especially in southwest coastal areas. Given the recent very wet weather, this will bring the potential for further flooding and transport disruption."
