The Essex commuter town among the best to live in with ridiculously expensive houses

It is a pretty well-known fact that huge homes in a safe, well-linked area will set you back quite the pretty penny. According to new research, one Essex area does not only have the most expensive homes in the county, but is also listed among the best places to live.

Online Marketing Surgery and Cardinal Steels have created their Property Report, which helped rank neighbourhoods in Essex based on their average house prices, year ending March 2024. One Essex area came up on top as having the most expensive homes - with the average home costing £865,000.

Located in the eastern part of Brentwood, Shenfield - and Hutton Mount - is widely regarded as one of the best places to live in Essex, according to Bairstow Eves. With excellent transport links, including a mainline train station with direct access to London Liverpool Street, Shenfield attracts commuters seeking a balance between city convenience and suburban tranquillity.

The area boasts a range of housing options, from modern apartments to spacious family homes. The Shenfield High Street offers a variety of shops, restaurants, and amenities, contributing to its vibrant community atmosphere.

It’s not just the abundance of stunning properties that attract families, according to Beresfords. There are excellent state and private schools including St Martins and Brentwood School.

Along Hutton Road, you’ll find well known stores along with many bijoux shops, bars and restaurants. The adjoining town of Brentwood has a wider range of national high street names.

Leisure opportunities are widespread ranging from fitness centres to golf courses. With so much to do in the area and easy access to central London - not mention the huge and expensive homes - it is no surprise that people are flocking to Shenfield!
