The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain in Essex as flooding is expected. Heavy downpours are expected today, and the weather warning lasts until Wednesday (November 27) morning.

Spells of rain has been forecast across the day today and tomorrow. The weather warning is in place for all of Essex, London, and the south east coast. Rain is expected to cause flooding.

It has been predicted that the county could see around 15-20mm of rain. The county is expected to last for 14 hours from 10pm Tuesday evening (November 26) to 12pm on Wednesday (November 27). Essex residents have been warned to expect delays on roads with the potential of power cuts.

There is a slight chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings, with power supplies likely to be interrupted, as well as other services, including bus services. Spray and flooding is likely to lead to difficult driving conditions, making journey times longer.

A spokesperson for The Met Office said: "An area of rain is expected to reach parts of southern England overnight Tuesday, becoming persistent and heavy in places for a time. Much of the warning area will see 15-20 mm of rain with 30-40 mm in some areas. There is a lower chance of 50 mm of rain in a few places, more likely for the Isle of Wight, Sussex and Kent, before rain eases and clears by early afternoon. Given recent wet weather, some disruption to travel and infrastructure is likely."
