A new tearoom in Writtle is set to open very soon. Duckquiri - located on the green in Writtle - will be a tea room, serving hot and cold drinks, cocktails, breakfast, brunch, lunch, homemade cakes and afternoon tea.

It has a stunning garden, where the tearoom intends to host private functions. While the spot will remain primarily a tearoom, it is unique in the fact that it will hold events and host live music, too!

Duckquiri has applied for an alcohol license for seven days a week, from 8am to 11pm. A statement on the tearoom's Facebook says: "We wanted to assure you the place will remain primarily a tearoom.

"If you view our entire license with the council you will see we have applied for the sale of alcohol 7 days a week, just in case we hold the occasional event outside our opening hours. As with the previous owners we will be holding these events with the most respect and consideration for our neighbours."

The live music license that the tea room has applied for means that visitors could have live singers at any events held at the tearoom. This comes as the tearoom plans to have occasional weekend evening events heading into the spring and summer months.

Duckquiri has said that locals will be informed ahead of any late night events. They also said that the events will be occasional, "as respection neighbours is a key priority for (the) business."

Ahead of the opening date - which has not yet been confirmed - Duckquiri said: "If you see us in the shop, feel free to come in and have a chat as we’d love to meet all of our neighbours. We look forward to having a cup of tea and a homemade slice of cake with you all soon!"
