Yahoo News As Eugene and Dan Levy Host the Emmys, Get to Know Their Family
Tonight, Eugene Levy and Dan Levy will host the Emmy Awards, the first father-son duo to ever host the awards show.
"For two Canadians who won our Emmys in a literal quarantine tent, the idea of being asked to host this year in an actual theater was incentive enough," the Levys said in a statement when it was announced. "We're thrilled to be able to raise a glass to this extraordinary season of television and can’t wait to spend the evening with you all." (Dan and Eugene both won Emmys for Schitt's Creek in 2020, during the pandemic.)
Before they take the stage, get to know the Levy family:
Eugene Levy
Levy, 77, was born in Hamilton, Ontario. He got his start in the late 1970s on the Canadian sketch TV show SCTV, and gained more acclaim through his performance in comedic films such as A Mighty Wind (2003), Best in Show (2000), American Pie (1999), and Waiting for Guffman (1997). He starred in Schitt's Creek from 2015 to 2020 alongside both his children, and he now hosts The Reluctant Traveler, a travel show on Apple TV+.
Eugene and his wife, Deborah, decided to raise their kids in Toronto—intentionally away from Hollywood. "There’s something about raising kids in a show-bizzy kind of environment that’s a little scary," Eugene said. "Toronto is just a very normal town. They could grow up with all options open to them of what they wanted to do. We didn’t want them to be locked into show business. Of course the irony is they both went into acting — and now we’re all on a show together."
Deborah Divine
Eugene married Deborah Divine in 1977. During his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony, Eugene said, "You can't have your name put on a star on Hollywood Boulevard without someone having your back, and Deb's had mine for 47 years. There would be no star today without you." Deborah, who goes by Deb, has kept a low profile throughout her husband's career; she worked as a writer on Maniac Mansion, a TV show, from 1990 to 1993, but that's her only public credit.
Dan Levy
Dan Levy, 41, is Eugene and Deb's oldest child and only son. He started his career as a host on MTV Canada, but reached mainstream fame when he created and starred in Schitt's Creek alongside his father and his sister. (In the show, however, Annie Murphy plays his fictional sister, and Sarah, his real sister, plays local waitress Twyla.)
Since the Schitt's Creek finale aired, Dan has starred in Coastal Elites (2020) and made his
directorial debut with Good Grief (2024)."As someone who’s single a lot, your friends are the loves of your life." Dan said in an interview about Good Grief. "The friends I have are lifers. I love them dearly, to the point where I wrote a movie about that love and how it can save us in the hardest of times. I wanted the romance to be on the sidelines for once."
Sarah Levy
Eugene and Deb's youngest, and only daughter, Sarah Levy, is 37. Sarah is an actress, and starred in Schitt's Creek. Since, she's starred in the Canadian TV show SurrealEstate, as well as the romcom The Holiday Shift, and is set to appear in the horror film The Monkey, based on Stephen King's short story of the same name. In 2021, she married Graham Outerbridge, and in 2022, they welcomed their first child, James.
Graham, 42, is a Canadian actor and law student. According to his Instagram bio, he graduates from law school ("SW Law," likely Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles) next year.
