The Lionesses have ended England's 56-year wait for a major trophy, beating Germany 2-1 after extra time in the Euro 2022 final.

Here are some of the best pictures from the sensational match at Wembley Stadium.

Both teams warmed up on the pitch and formed huddles before kick-off. Germany played in their dark green strip, while England played in white.

Just before kick-off, news broke that Germany's Alexandra Popp had suffered a muscular injury, meaning Lea Schüller started in her place.

German coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg and England's manager Sarina Wiegman watched on as the two sides played out a entertaining first half which ended goalless.

In the 62nd minute, England's Ella Toone was set through on goal and put the Lionesses ahead with a sublime lob.

Germany piled on the pressure and England were unable to hold on. Lina Magull put the Germans level in the 79th minute as she flicked in a cross at the near post.

Refereeing the match was Kateryna Monzul, who just months earlier fled the war in Ukraine. The 41-year-old was living in Kharkiv, Ukraine's second largest city, until the Russian invasion in February.

Despite both sides creating good chances to pull ahead, the opening 90 minutes ended 1-1.

Just 10 minutes before the end of extra-time, England's Chloe Kelly muscled off her marker at a corner and poked a shot at the German goal. Merle Frohms saved her effort but Kelly stabbed home a rebound, sparking jubilation at Wembley.

The Lionesses held on to claim a historic victory celebrated across the nation.
