Just five in a hundred Brits can name a Member of the European Parliament standing in their area, YouGov research has discovered.

The YouGov research found that 92% of Brits say they can not name a singe one of the MEPs for their region and of the 8% who said they could, four in ten gave the wrong answer.

The research, which used a sample size of 1,797 adults and was carried out over May 15th and 16th, revealed that Brits feel mainly disconnected from the consequences of the European elections.

It found that only 32% of Brits think that the European elections have a great deal or a fair amount of impact in general.

MEPs are the elected representatives in the EU and they question and lobby the Commission and the Council of Ministers.

MEPs are also behind the passing of laws affecting our lives such as how many hours employees throughout the EU can be required to work and how much rest they should be given.

The final European Parliament voting intention survey before the election has found the Brexit Party to dominate with 37% of the vote.
