Walking is touted as the most steadfast way to get around, especially in bustling city centres where key sights often huddle together.

As per language experts at Preply, Europe beckons with plenty of pedestrian-friendly cities including Edinburgh, London and Barcelona. However, it's the sun-drenched streets of Seville in Spain that reign supreme as the top walkable urban retreat in all of Europe.

Their study spotlighted those cityscapes where all significant attractions are merely an easy walk apart. A quaint British city may have been celebrated for its on-foot charms, yet it was Seville, the endearing southern heartthrob of Spain, that clinched the highest honours for amblers across the continent.

A leisurely 20-minute meander under the Spanish sun is all it takes to link visitors up with Seville's prime delights, offering the perfect alternative for those who'd rather not be behind the wheel.

Famed as the cradle of tapas, the city overflows with convivial festivals and awe-inducing wonders, notably the illustrious Plaza de Espana. This emblem of Andalusian zest, boasting its very own moat worthy of a leisurely boat ride, has left TripAdvisor reviewers utterly enchanted, reports the Express.

Earlier this month, a traveller to Seville shared their awe, remarking: "Breathtaking place to visit. Very stunning architecture. It was my favourite place I visited in Seville. Well worth a visit."

Echoing the sentiment, another added: "One of the most spectacular plazas in Spain, and definitely a must-see for anyone visiting Seville. The park surrounding it is also nice."

One visitor enthused about the journey, saying it's "well worth" the walk, and shared: "Stunning architecture and not too busy when we visited. A beautiful place to visit. Allow an hour. You can hire a small rowing boat which isn't expensive."

Holidaymakers should also consider adding the Real Alcazar and Seville Cathedral to their travel plans, with Parque de Maria Luisa providing a serene escape from the hustle and bustle.

These attractions are ideally suited for an autumnal visit as the season offers the perfect climate for exploring Seville. While summer temperatures can soar to a blistering 40C, they become far more pleasant, around 26C, in October.

Bargain flights are up for grabs with Skyscanner offering return trips to this Spanish jewel in October for a mere £60 from London airports to Seville (SVQ).

Seville is a dream for pedestrians, with the top five sights all within a one-mile radius using the most direct route, say experts at Preply.

For faster travel within the city, Seville boasts superb public transport connections to both local and wider areas.

The city has two primary bus stations: Prado de San Sebastian, serving various cities and towns in Andalucia, and Plaza de Armas, where buses head off to different Spanish regions and Portugal.

Cycling is a popular and safe option for getting around, with numerous bike rental outlets throughout the city centre.

On the other hand, the Metro-Centro tram network, which starts at Plaza Nueva in the city centre and ends at San Bernado train station, offers metro connections. Tickets can be purchased at each tram station.
