Dua Lipa's management team has been tasked by the BBC with picking who will represent the UK in next year's Eurovision Song Contest.

Tap management, who also represents artists the likes of Lana Del Rey, Ellie Goulding and Hailee Steinfeld will take over the selection process after the UK came in last place in this year's contest.

The UK famously performs poorly at Eurovision but in the 2021 edition, James Newman did not score a single point from neither the professional jurors nor the audience with his song, 'Embers'.

It has now been 12 years since the UK even made it to the top 10, with the last time being Jade Ewen in 2009.

Tap is taking over from record label BMG who previously selected Eurovision hopefuls for the country but will now no longer be involved in the process.

Tap was founded in 2009 by then-practising lawyer Ben Mawson who met Lana Del Rey and helped her get out of unfavourable deals she was bound to from her career's early days.

After teaming up with experienced music manager Ed Millett, the firm has expanded from London to Berlin, Sydney and Los Angeles, and has established its own record label.

"We're really excited to be teaming up with the BBC for this event and will use Eurovision to authentically reflect and celebrate the rich, diverse and world-class musical talent the UK is globally renowned for," said Mawson.

"I think our conclusion was [Eurovision] is not as political as people think," he said in an interview with BBC Radio 1's Newsbeat. "And I think we should focus on getting some really special music and a really special artist that represents Britain in the best possible way.

"We don't want to see Eurovision as a boom or bust night for the artist. We want to see this as a platform for development for a career. We don't know yet if they'll be a new artist but if they are we want to make sure this is going to be a really positive experience."

Dua Lipa also expressed her support for her management's newest effort telling The Sun: "I'm a proud Brit whilst also being a proud Kosovan. I'm happy to lend my manager to the cause. I'll be cheering them on!"
