Euston London Underground Station is getting busier - and it's due to National Rail 'improvements'
London Euston Underground Station has been busier recently because of National Rail timetable changes, Sadiq Khan has suggested. The Mayor of London also explained how 'control measures' are put in place if the interchange 'becomes particularly congested'.
It comes as concerns have been raised about overcrowding and the overall safety of London Euston Station. On Friday, the Transport Secretary, Louise Haigh, and Network Rail announced a five point plan to improve customer experience.
Liberal Democrat London Assembly Member Hina Bokhari asked Mr Khan: "Please outline any recent conversations you have had with the Government and Network Rail over safety concerns regarding Euston station including overcrowding."

The Mayor said: "Transport for London (TfL) takes customer safety very seriously and monitors congestion at its premises closely. At Euston London Underground (LU) station, during busy times (usually the morning and evening peaks or when there is disruption to TfL or National Rail services), TfL implements station control measures to manage any congestion as part of its Congestion Control Emergency Plan."
Demand for Euston Tube has 'increased over the last year'
He added: "This means that, at times, congestion could occur and start to affect the safe operation of the station. TfL staff speak with colleagues in the National Rail control room at Euston so they can work together to minimise congestion impacts and operate in a safe manner.
"The demand at Euston LU station has increased over the last year due to improved timetables on National Rail services. If the LU station becomes particularly congested, TfL has to stop customers entering the LU station until platforms, passageways and the ticket hall are clear and it is safe to operate normally."
Network Rail's plan for Euston includes reviewing passenger information provision and circulation, including a shutdown and review of the use of overhead advertising boards. In addition, there will be a review of how passengers are invited to and board services, especially during disruption.
Other aims include creating more concourse space and 'alleviating pinch-points', which will include more, and 'upgraded', toilet provisions, unifying station operation during disruption to 'ensure a holistic approach is taken' for the benefit of all passengers, and 'driving up the reliability' of both the infrastructure and train services to reduce' disruptive events' being experienced.
