EV startup Lucid revealed its first SUV — see the Gravity, which features a futuristic dashboard and more range than any Tesla
Lucid introduced a three-row SUV called the Gravity.
Its the startups second car, after the Air sedan.
The company has struggled to turn a profit and sell its expensive cars.
Lucid, the electric vehicle startup helmed by a former Tesla chief engineer, is moving into the SUV segment.
The company on Thursday released details of its three-row Gravity, which it says can deliver up to 440 miles of battery range, surpassing Tesla's top range of 405 miles.
Lucid has so far struggled to turn a profit with its first car, a luxury sedan known as the Air. Over the summer losses mounted to around $500,000 for every car the company sold.
In a US car market that greatly favors large SUVs, Lucid has had trouble drumming up demand for its debut sedan. Like rival Tesla, Lucid has resorted to slashing prices on its slow moving cars throughout the year.
Expected to go on sale later this year, the Gravity will start at $80,000, Lucid said. Here's a closer look:
The three-row Gravity sports a sleek and futuristic look on the exterior.
The Gravity also retains signature Lucid Air design elements, like the light strips in front and rear and clamshell cargo hatch.
The funk has a wide and low opening to make it easier to load and unload.
The Gravity's frunk opens with part of the grille area, just like the F-150 Lightning. Most other EVs have more of a hood-like design so you have to drop things in from the top.
The Lucid clamshell cargo hatch is supersized for the Gravity.
"The silhouette of the vehicle is designed around two primary components, spaciousness and aerodynamics," Derek Jenkins, senior vice president of design and brand at Lucid, told Insider.
The Lucid Air's signature light strips are carried over on the Gravity.
From the road you will still spot a Lucid by its front and rear light bars.
The Gravity Dream Edition trim, shown here, has rich caramel and black interior elements highlighted by chrome accents.
This look takes influence from mid-century modern furniture design and modern interior design, Jenkins said.
Lucid's narrow headlights pop on the sculpted front end of the Gravity.
Solid grilles are a common feature of EVs, and automaker's have experimented with creative ways to style the newfound canvas.

The shape was used to make it easier to see the 34-inch curved and uninterrupted OLED display, Jenkins said.
The massive, landscape style dash is easier to see than a portrait tablet near your knee.
The 34-inch digital dashboard is a highlight of the Gravity's interior.
In the center console, cup holders can disappear beneath a leather platform.
With 112 cubic feet of cargo space, the Gravity edges out the Rivian R1S on storage.
The R1S has 107 cubic feet of total cargo space.
The trunk of the Gravity has deep storage space, allowing for ample cargo even with the third row folded up.
The second row has adjustable seats that can allow for more legroom in the third row, which is probably best-suited for kids.
Tray tables in the second row make for a workspace on the go.
"We really see an opportunity in the modern EV era to approach things a little bit differently and really get the absolute most out of an SUV experience," Jenkins said.
