Eva Mendes Reveals Why She And Ryan Gosling Chose To Name Their Daughter ‘Esmeralda’

And, if we’re honest, they seem to have stolen our own strategy for choosing baby names based on films and characters they love. Bit rude.

Eva, 41, appeared on The Wendy Williams Show over in the USA on Wednesday, where she was asked if she named Esmeralda after Samantha’s mother from Bewitched.

However, she explained that it was a certain Parisian-based tale that actually inspired the couple.

Eva revealed: “We love The Hunchback of Notre Dame, we loved the name - the cartoon and the novel. It just kind of kept coming back to us.

“It’s actually a very popular Latin name, so it’s easy for my father and certain family members that still don’t speak English to pronounce. That was a good selling point.”

We LOVE it, guys.

The gorgeous couple recently celebrated their little one’s first birthday with a small gathering for around 20 friends and family.

An eyewitness told Us Weekly: “It was a quiet and casual party, not the typical celebrity 1st birthday blowout with vendors and other celebrity guests.

“It looked like it was just their simple style and more about family and close friends coming together to celebrate Esmeralda.”

N’aww.

Family reportedly got involved in the organisation of the whole thing too, with 34-year-old Ryan’s sister bringing a homemade birthday cake, and Eva’s mum and sister arriving early to help them set up.

The eyewitness added: “Some people brought wrapped gifts, including clothes and toys. One guest arrived carrying a rocking horse, and another had colorful plastic balls to fill a ball pit.”

Sounds like a perfect party to us!
