Evacuations Ordered as Bobcat Fire Grows to More Than 55,000 Acres

Residents were forced to flee their homes in several communities near the northern slope of California’s San Gabriel Mountains on September 17, as the Bobcat Fire grew to more than 55,000 acres.

This footage, posted to Instagram, shows an orange haze blanketing Juniper Hills, which was under an evacuation order.

According to the National Wildfire Coordinating Group, additional aircraft were ordered to tackle the fire.

The fire first erupted on September 6 amid a record-breaking heatwave and has since scorched 55,617 acres. It was 9 percent contained by September 17. Credit: Mike Schenk via Storyful
