Evacuations Ordered as Crews Battle Wildfire in Central Texas

Evacuation orders were issued for areas near Wimberley, Texas – about 30 miles southwest of Austin – on Wednesday, August 3, due to the 60-acre Hermosa fire, according to Wimberley Fire Rescue.

This footage uploaded to Facebook by local resident Rachel Hughes Brocker shows flames and smoke from the fire billowing into the air. The caption accompanying the video said the fire was “carrying large embers over my home.”

The Hays County Office of Emergency Management said additional state resources had been requested to fight the fire, which was burning on “difficult terrain.”

The fire was five percent contained as of Thursday, August 4, according to the Texas A&M Forest Service. Credit: Rachel Hughes Brocker via Storyful
