Evacuations Ordered as Grizzly Creek Fire Grows to 3,000 Acres

Evacuations were ordered and Interstate 70 was shut down for the second day in Glenwood Canyon, Colorado, on August 11 as the Grizzly Creek Fire burned through over 3,000 acres.

According to reports, the blaze was located in Garfield Canyon, four miles east of Glenwood Springs, and Interstate 70 was shuttered for a 30-mile stretch between Glenwood Springs and Gypsum.

Evacuation orders were issued for the Colorado town of No Name and for Coulter Creek. Fire authorities reported that the dry, hot and windy conditions had created extreme fire conditions.

Because of the mountainous terrain where the fire was burning, firefighters used aerial attacks to try to combat the blaze. The cause of the fire was still under investigation as of the Tuesday evening. Credit: Jose Santillan via Storyful
