All About Eve: Gillian Anderson and Lily James to star in stage version of 1950 film

X-Files actress Gillian Anderson and Cinderella star Lily James are to feature in the stage adaptation of 1950 hit movie All About Eve.

The new London theatre production of the Joseph L Mankiewicz film, which starred Bette Davis and Anne Baxter, is being directed by Ivo van Hove.

Other stars in the cast include W1A star Monica Dolan, Benidorm actress Sheila Reid and Apple Tree Yard's Rhashan Stone. Music will be provided by PJ Harvey.

The American film, based on Mary Orr's original play The Wisdom of Eve, was nominated for 14 Oscars and held the record for the most nominations ever until it was tied by Titanic in 1997 and La La Land in 2017.

The Hollywood satire was praised by critics at the time of its release and went onto win six awards.

It stars Davies as Margo Channing, an ageing Broadway star, and Baxter as Eve Harrington, an ambitious young fan who goes onto threaten Margo's career and personal life.

In the stage production, Anderson, 50, will play Margo, while James, 29, will appear as her biggest fan-turned-nemesis Eve.

The play, which examines jealousy and ambition between the bitterly feuding leading characters, will also ponder the fascination with celebrity, youth and identity.

Tickets for All About Eve will go on sale from 10am on 28 September with pre-sale from 10am on 26 September.

It will run at the Noel Coward Theatre from 2 February 2019 to 11 May 2019, with opening night on 12 February.
