When planning a holiday, it’s rare that quad-biking is top of my agenda. As someone who barely passed their driving test and hasn’t been behind the wheel in six years, motorsports don’t factor so highly when dreaming up my next big trip. So when it was announced we’d be trying out quad-biking as one of the many activities on offer at the Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort, I was apprehensive to say the least.

Cut to five minutes later as I’m screaming my way down 7km of beach, the Atlantic ocean on my right and a new-found love for quad-biking tucked in my pocket for safekeeping. I didn’t even know I was missing this adrenalin hit from my classic beach getaway, and yet here I was, speeding towards a flock of birds with the sun on my back. And after it was all over? Straight to the bar for poolside cocktails. Holidaying at Mazagan is certainly not about compromise.

The hotel

Consisting of 500 rooms and suites set over 250 acres of land, the Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort is luxury holidaying in size XL. Only an hour’s drive from Casablanca airport, it boasts 14 restaurants and bars, a spa, its own private beach and even an 18-hole golf course. It’s not just quad-biking on offer either; guests can enjoy a range of activities to rival the Olympics, with archery, horse riding and go karting all available. Cabin fever is not an issue here.

The service

You’d be forgiven for thinking that the sheer breadth of what’s available at Mazagan means a compromise on quality, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. From the moment I stepped into its breath-taking atrium the staff were friendly and attentive, helping us to feel truly taken care of. It took one passing mention that I had forgotten my plug adapter to find one waiting for me at my room. I was particularly impressed by our quad-biking instructor, who diligently photographed us from every angle for those all-important Instagram likes. And I’m still thinking about the fish dishes I tried at seafood restaurant Sel de Mer, which included the best sea bream I have ever eaten.

What to do

It’s this attention to detail that helps make Mazagan feel personally tailored to you, whichever type of holiday you choose. Romantic getaways are made easy with private terraces and indulgent spa treatments; as a single guest I didn’t feel out of place enjoying the resort on my own, especially when lounging on one of their luxury daybeds by the pool. If a family holiday is more what you’re after, there are kids clubs to entertain the little ones and lots of family friendly activities to choose from. Try horse riding on the beach or visiting the kid’s pool complete with waterfall and slide.

The rooms

Rooms are spacious and undergoing a revamp with newly decorated suites available from mid-2020. Couples should take note of the updated Mazagan suites that feature private sun-drenched terraces and mini-pools, complete with stunning views across the Atlantic.

The amenities

A visit to the spa is essential for guests wanting to enjoy a truly luxurious few hours. I was lucky enough to try the 60 minute Aromatherapy ritual massage which left me feeling relaxed and renewed, but there are more traditional treatments available too. The infamous Hammam scrub is a must for more adventurous guests. An intense hour of exfoliation is worth it for baby-soft skin.

PROS

If the objective of your holiday is to switch off from the everyday – whether that’s while galloping along the coast on horseback or relaxing in the spa - then the Mazagan resort is a must-visit. It’s the perfect getaway for those wanting to take the stress out of vacationing as every element of your holiday is taken care of on site. It couldn’t be easier to switch off and enjoy the sun.

CONS

If you’re after an immersive feel for Morocco and its culture, you may be disappointed: the resort is designed to cater to your every need and guests rarely go elsewhere during their stay. But with so much on offer in one place – why would you? A stay at Mazagan is anything and everything you want it to be, and then some.
