Cookie Lyon is easily one of the best characters currently on television. Played by powerhouse Taraji P. Henson, who has received mass critical acclaim for her role, Cookie is the outspoken ex-wife of music mogul Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard). She is freed from jail at the beginning of the show after serving a 17-year sentence for dealing the drugs that financed Lucious’ early career. Cookie is determined to unite her family of under-appreciative and spoilt sons, and to rightly claim her stake in her husband’s company, Empire Entertainment. Henson makes an explosive entrance (though that might be an understatement), bringing a whole lot of sass to Cookie, who’s easily the standout character of this show; not an episode goes by when she throws in a hilariously snarky comment.
