'Everybody Shout Out to Sheryl': Sole Passenger On Boston Flight Gets Personal Welcome

One woman’s last-minute flight to Boston to visit her dying mother took an unexpected turn when she discovered she was the only passenger on the American Eagle service as the coronavirus sent the aviation industry into near-hibernation.

Sheryl Pardo booked a flight leaving from Washington’s Reagan National Airport on Friday, March 27, after learning that her mother likely had only a few days to live, she told local media.

Once on the plane, which reportedly would carry around 100 passengers at capacity, she found she was alone on the flight.

In this video, filmed by Pardo, an airline staff member can be seen introducing herself over the intercom.

“My name is Jessica and I will be your flight attendant, and we have Sheryl as our passenger today,” the female attendant says. “Living it up in first class. Everybody shout out to Sheryl, the only passenger on the plane.”

Pardo’s mother later died in circumstances unrelated to the virus outbreak, it was reported. Air traffic across the US had dropped 55% in the last week of March when compared to the same period in 2019 as the coronavirus continued its spread, according to reports. Credit: Sheryl Pardo via Storyful
