Everyone's saying the same thing about 'glam' nan's surprise party
People have rushed to praise a "glamorous" nan who got the shock of her life when she arrived at her own surprise birthday party. Edna Dillon, from Park Road, Dingle, doesn't drink alcohol, but was convinced by sister-in-law Maria to head to The Quarry for - what she believed to be a Motown-themed night.
Upon arrival to the Woolton venue, however, the 64-year-old sensed something was off. The grandma-of-11, who now lives in Allerton, said to Maria: “I think we’re at the wrong place, there’s no music”. Despite this, the two insisted Edna continue inside as they knew what was waiting for her - having planned a surprise 65th birthday party. The mum-of-four, 64, told the ECHO: “My birthday isn’t till December, so I was completely shocked.
"I don’t go out, I don’t drink, I’ve never drank. But my sister-in-law, Maria, said there was a Motown night, and we would head there. I thought that’s where I was going. Then, I opened the door, and I just heard ‘bang, bang, bang’.”

After hearing the confetti, Edna hilariously fell backwards in shock - but lucky, for us, it was all captured on camera by her loved ones. The former Liverpool John Moores student said: “I’m still shaken up. I thought I was being shot. There was all this colour confetti over me. It was a lovely surprise, but it definitely was a surprise.
“My poor grandson who rushed to pick me up said, ‘Nan, I thought you had a heart attack’. I’ve never had a surprise like this before. All my family and friends were there.
“Friends I haven't seen for years and family I haven’t seen in ages. My feet are still sore after the night, and I have a big black and blue arm; I don’t know what I was doing, but I just had a fantastic night. I danced all night.”
Edna’s friend, JoJo Marie, posted the video to TikTok, and within hours, it had 11,000 views. It now has over 11 million views and nearly 500,000 likes.
People have flocked to Facebook to show Edna their support and wish her a Happy Birthday. Debbie Carlin said: "I have watched it over and over and it gets funnier and funnier. Happy 65th birthday Edna hope you had the best time. X"
