San Diego Comic-Con is edging ever closer. A mass gathering of pilgrims brought together in a very large, very sweaty convention centre to lap up the latest news on all the biggest films, TV shows and comics.

It's a five-day extravaganza packed with screenings, panels, interviews and showcase and it can all be a little bit much to get your head around.

Luckily for you though, we've put together this handy guide which sums up everything you need to know to survive the greatest show on earth without losing your mind. We'll keep it updated to add an new information as it arrives so you can pop back here for all the news and announcement.

San Diego Comic-Con 2017 dates: Summer's coming!

This year SDCC will run from July 20 to 23, with the convention centre opening on the 19th for 'preview night' (where you can have a look around the exhibit hall).

This year Comic-Con falls one week after Disney's bi-annual convention D23, where the mouse house will likely showcase their films first.

San Diego Comic-Con 2017 tickets: all gone

Open registration for badges occurred on April 8 and as ever, they sold out very quickly indeed.

If you've got one: congrats! If you haven't and fancy going to Comic-Con 2018 you'll need to head to the official site, register for a Comic-Con member ID (which is free and very easy to do) and keep your eyes open for next years Open Registration day.

San Diego Comic-Con 2017 guests: who's going to be there

Attendees are slowly being announced – and will continue to be updated as we get closer to the event. You can find the Special Guests list on the Comic-Con site. At the mo these include some big names in comics including Jim Lee, Paul Dini and Brian Selznick.

In terms of movies Marvel boss Kevin Feige recently confirmed that Marvel would have a presence at this year's Comic-Con where we'd expect to see footage from Thor: Ragnarok, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Black Panther and possibly Avengers: Infinity War. DC should be there too with Justice League and maybe some Aquaman.

Fox could conceivably have a Deadpool 2 teaser, Disney may well bring some more The Last Jedi goodies and we might even get a glimpse of some Fantastic Beasts 2 from Warner. Plus there'll be the usual surprises, trailers, panels and announcements.

As for TV we'd expect to see Agents of SHIELD and The Defenders from Marvel and perhaps a tease for Jessica Jones Season 2. We'd also expect all the DC shows including Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl.

Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead and Supernatural will likely have panels as well as clips and trailers.

There probably won't be anything from Doctor Who though, because they'll have finished filming the Christmas episode so Capaldi will be out of contract, and it's unlikely they'd take a new Doctor, even if they've announced who it will be.

San Diego Comic-Con 2017 schedule: What's going on when?

The schedule hasn't yet been announced either – though you can build your own once it's out. There'll be comics and TV panels every day, though Sunday tends to be a day where there's just TV (ie not really any movies content).

Film-wise Thursday often holds YA and horror, with Friday and Saturday offering the meatiest clips and announcements. Movies fans wanting to be in Hall H, the main Hall at the convention centre, can expect the queue of their lives and no sleep.
