Everything you need to know about Ed Sheeran and Cherry Seaborn's relationship

In case you were hibernating over the weekend, there was some pretty big news in the world of Ed Sheeran.

The singer announced the news of his engagement to Cherry Seaborn over on Instagram: ‘Got myself a fiancé just before new year. We are very happy and in love, and our cats are chuffed as well xx’

Sheeran, 26, has known fiance Cherry, 25, since they were kids, but only started dating a few years ago.

Sheeran grew up in Framlingham, Suffolk, with Cherry as they both attended Thomas Mills High School. After becoming close friends, as he stood out for his musical ability and her for her hockey skills, they went their separate ways.

Cherry achieved a degree in molecular biology and represented England Under-21s at hockey, before a career in consultancy and risk assessment for high-profile accounting firm Deloitte came calling. Sheeran, as we know, went on to dominate the pop world.

The pair’s first ever date was at Taylor Swift’s 4th of July party back in 2015, he revealed to People.

‘Well, our anniversary is her 4th of July party,’ the singer said. They attended Swift’s shindig, her legendary Independence Day party, at her Rhode Island home.

‘I’ve known Cherry since I was 11,’ he revealed. The school friends hadn’t seen each other in a while and randomly reconnected in the summer of 2015. ‘She worked on Wall Street in New York, and I had like six shows [around New York in 2015],’ Sheeran said, as they reconnected and fate (and, ahem, Taylor Swift) brought them together.

‘I was texting [Seaborn], and she was like, ‘I’m in Rhode Island at a 4th of July party,’ and I was like, ‘So am I.’ I kinda said to Taylor, ‘Can I invite one of my old schoolmates?’ The rest is history.’

The loved-up couple actually took a year off, with Cherry quitting her job, so they could take the time to develop their relationship – and it seems to have worked. Sheeran revealed to Zane Lowe how they’d focused on themselves and put work to one side: ‘

‘This has been the first time I’ve actually had the time to fall in love properly,’ the Shape of You singer said.

He also spoke of how the ‘catalyst of taking a year off was also the fact that my partner quit her job in New York … we were just basically, like, let’s quit our jobs and have a year of forming a tight bond. So we went traveling and spent every day for a year together.’

The good news is that his bestie, the Bad Blood popstar, approves. In fact, her and Cherry get on like a house on fire: ‘Her and Taylor have hung out without me quite a few times; I think they have gal chats. I don’t know what they get up to, talking about cats or whatever.’

There are no details on the wedding itself just yet, but we’ll report back as soon as anything happens.
