Here's everything you need to know about Sissy and Vanya's relationship in season two of The Umbrella Academy.

How did Sissy and Vanya meet?

When she first appeared in 1960s Dallas, Vanya headed out onto the street in search of answers. With amnesia and no idea of where she was, she wasn't entirely sure where she was going. However, as she was walking out into the street, Sissy accidentally hit her with her car, bringing them together for the first time.

How did their relationship get started?

Vanya was invited to live with Sissy as she tried to remember who she was. Vanya became a live-in nanny for Sissy's son, Harlan, who is autistic. One day, when Harlan mysteriously goes missing, Sissy and Vanya go out and search for him. Vanya uses her powers to discover that Harlan actually drowned in a lake and later is able to resuscitate him by unknowingly transferring some of her power to him.

Later that night, Sissy admits that she is unhappy in her relationship with her husband, Carl, and kisses Vanya. The two have sex and wake up the next day surprised by Carl returning back from his trip early. They decide to hide their relationship for the time being.

When Five reveals that he has a way to bring The Umbrella Academy back to 2019, Vanya goes to Sissy and begs her to run away with them. After some initial hesitation, Sissy agrees and says that she is going to bring Harlan as well, who might actually get a life in the future where autism is more understood and accepted. However, her husband finds out that they are together, calls the cops, and Vanya is taken in by the police when she tries to attack them with her powers.

As Vanya is being questioned as they believe her to be a KGB agent, her powers activate which also causes Harlan's to activate as well. Carl, scared over the situation, tries to take him to a mental hospital, but Sissy stops him by threatening to shoot him. After Vanya is calmed down by Ben, Harlan also returns to normal. At the same time, Sissy and Carl start fighting over the gun and the trigger is accidentally pulled. Harlan uses his new powers to send the bullet back to Carl, who seemingly dies from his injuries. Harlan, scared about his new powers, starts to freak out and Sissy is unable to calm him down.

Vanya and the rest of The Umbrella Academy come to try to help him, but are stopped by Lila and The Handler. After a big showdown between both groups, The Umbrella Academy is able to calm down Harlan and Vanya takes her power back from him.

With a suitcase now in hand, the group decides it's time to go back to 2019. Vanya brings up the idea of Sissy and Harlan joining them, but this time, Sissy decides to stay behind as that is where she believes she belongs. The two share a kiss goodbye before they go their separate ways.

As Sissy is driving away from her farm, Harlan can be seen in the back seat using his new telekinesis powers to levitate a toy, showing that he seems to have powers of his own.

What has Ellen Page said about their relationship?

At the CTAM 2020 panel for The Umbrella Academy, Ellen opened up about bringing the relationship to life on the screen.

"To have the opportunity to film a season where Vanya falls in love for the first time and has this experience and have it be with a woman was a really exciting opportunity. Especially since it takes place in the ‘60s and showing some of the obstacles at that time. Obviously, it was an era where it was illegal and considered a mental illness. [It's an honor] to be able to do it in a show like this, that has the reach that the series has, and to tell a story that I think hopefully shows the beauty and the joy that these women have together, then also reflects very realistic obstacles," she said. "[That was] the goal in order for it to be a positive representation in the world."
