Parcel delivery firm Evri is continuing to face a customer backlash over delays in the run-up to Christmas.

The company - formerly known as Hermes - has been forced to apologise following multiple complaints, while also warning there could be more late deliveries in the coming days.

There have been hundreds of complaints on social media, ranging from Evri’s parcel tracking tool failing to update, to next-day deliveries failing to turn up.

So, as people worry about packages arriving on time for Christmas, where does Evri stand among the other parcel delivery companies? Here, Yahoo News UK explains all…

Which are the worst-performing parcel delivery companies?

Last month, of the UK's top five companies by volume of deliveries, Evri was named the worst performing for the second year in a row by the Citizens Advice charity.

It had measured the firms by criteria including price, customer problems, accessibility, customer service and trust.

Evri finished bottom with an overall score of just 1.75 out of five.

This came despite an improvement from last year’s score of 1.50.

Evri, following the release of the Citizens Advice research, said it prides itself “on offering a fast, reliable, sustainable service which doesn’t cost the earth for consumers and businesses alike”.

Yodel (2.00) was the second worst-performing, and also received the lowest score for a single criteria (1.70, for customer service) of all the firms.

DPD (2.25) was the third worst while Amazon Logistics was rated 2.75.

Royal Mail was rated the best performer of the five, but only with a score of 3.00.

The failings of the big delivery firms are such that Citizens Advice is leading calls for Ofcom, the postal regulator, to start fining them if they don’t improve their service.

Ofcom has so far failed commit to this, saying it is “strengthening our regulations” next year to ensure fair service from the parcel firms.

It added that if the companies do not respond to those measures, “they may face enforcement action or tighter rules in future”.

It comes amid fears Christmas deliveries will not arrive on time due to Royal Mail strikes in the coming weeks.

More than 115,000 staff postal service staff walked out on Friday, with more strikes to follow on 14, 15, 23 and 24 December.
