Ewan McGregor's daughter congratulates him on Golden Globes' win amid affair scandal

Last week, Clara McGregor struck a chord on social media when she seemingly excluded her father, actor Ewan McGregor, from her family as she gushed about her “lil family of women” in a photo of herself alongside her sisters and mother, Eve Mavrakis.

The post came amid speculation that Ewan’s family were “furious” with him after he reportedly had an affair with his Fargo co-star, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, after 22 years of marriage to Eve.

However, Clara has now shown that all is not lost between herself and her father, taking to Instagram to congratulate him following his win at last night’s [7 January] Golden Globes.

Ewan picked up the gong for the best actor in a limited series for his role as twins Emmit and Ray Stussy in Fargo.

Posting on her Instagram story, 21-year-old Clara shared two photos of her dad alongside the caption: “Congrats pops” and a beer, trophy, and heart emoji.

Ewan’s acceptance speech at the Globes also caused a stir, with the actor thanking both Eve and Mary Elizabeth as he collected his gong.

Picking up his prize dressed in a black tuxedo and black shirt with a Time’s Up badge on his lapel, Ewan said: “I want to take a moment to just say thank you to Eve, who always stood by me for 22 years, and my four children Clara, Esther, Jamyan and Anouk.

“And I’ve always loved being an actor and I love hanging out with actors and I got amazing actors to work with on this.

“There wouldn’t have been Emmit Stussy without David Thewlis and Michael Stuhlbarg and Carrie Coon and there wouldn’t have been a Ray without Mary Elizabeth Winstead.”

Ewan hit the headlines in October when he was pictured kissing Mary Elizabeth in a London diner, despite being married to Eve.

It was later reported that Eve had been left “furious” by Ewan’s fling, with sources adding that she is “convinced” that the pair had an affair behind her back.

It was previously claimed that Ewan told Eve that he had feelings for his 32-year-old co-star back in May, however, he insisted that nothing had happened between them.

An insider added: “Eve is sure Ewan and Mary were together before he confessed his feelings for her. It is hard for her to believe him.

“This situation is extremely difficult for her and their four children.”

Eve had welcomed Mary Elizabeth into her and Ewan’s family home after she was cast alongside her husband in the US TV show.

Ewan and Mary Elizabeth started filming Fargo in Calgary, Canada, in January, with Ewan and Eve’s marriage said to have “abruptly” hit the rocks over the summer, with it reportedly “clear” that the pair had grown close when Ewan returned home from shooting.

An insider revealed last month: “Eve wanted to work through it but a month later it was clear Ewan had made his decision. Eve was his love and supported his career.

“They think he might be having a mid-life crisis and that is why he is pursuing his relationship with Mary at the expense of his family.”

Shortly after news of the scandal broke, oldest daughter Clara appeared to publicly side with her mother, posting a photo of Eve with Ewan cropped out to Twitter, writing: “How frickin gorgeous is my mama?? Strongest, smartest most loving woman I know. My rock.”

Last week, Clara shared a New Year’s family photo with Ewan noticeably missing from the image.

She captioned the snap: “My lil family of women thank you @evemcgregor123 we owe it all to you.”

Eve promptly regrammed the photo, adding: “Happy 2018! I am so thankful for my loving, caring girls.

“Happy, peaceful and adventurous New 2018 to all my friends and family. With love…”
