Former EastEnders star Cheryl Fergison has spoken out after her character Heather Trott was used to make cruel comments about a guest on The Jeremy Kyle Show.

The actress, who played Heather from 2007 to 2011, took to Twitter to blast trolls who were nastily comparing a woman's appearance on the chat show to her former alter ego.

In a series of posts, Cheryl explained her dislike for programmes such as Jeremy Kyle - and also implored her critics to stop judging others.

"Heather Trott was a character!!" Cheryl said in one Twitter post. "And people ask me why I don't watch stuff like Jeremy Kyle!! Sad world we live in folks.

"You know I think I've had enough of the way people judge others .. I will say this one more time thank God we are not all built the same way.

"I just don't get it.. when is the world gonna understand that no two people are the same! We are all different and no one is perfect."

She continued: "I think something has to happen soon we cannot keep ripping each other apart we have to start caring and find the respect again #community.

"Negativity makes me sad it makes me upset makes people have no self worth. There is so much to do/see/learn/experience in life for the good so programmes like Jeremy Kyle are just depressing (in my opinion).

"Who are we to judge anyone's life & why r we like gladiators watching what is clearly none of our business."

Well said, Cheryl!

EastEnders continues tonight (February 24) at 8pm on BBC One.
