Former EastEnders star Joe Swash has spoken out about his double bankruptcy, admitting he was irresponsible with money when he was on the soap.

The actor played Mickey Miller from 2003 to 2008, but declared himself bankrupt in 2009 – shortly after being crowned the winner of I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!.

Joe was then declared insolvent again in 2013 when he reportedly faced financial difficulties over an unsettled £50,000 tax bill.

However, Joe – who is dating former X Factor star and Loose Women regular Stacey Solomon – has since bounced back and now wants to warn others about his experience with overspending.

"I got into EastEnders and was irresponsible with money," he told The Mirror. "I was chucking it away on stuff I didn't need. I went out every night and had a house with a mortgage.

"When you are young, you just don't think it is ever going to end. I thought I was going to be on EastEnders for years and years.

"The second time it happened I was on TV and I felt embarrassed and wondered how I managed to get myself into the situation. But it can happen to anybody."

Joe bowed out of EastEnders in 2008, but made a brief return in 2011 for his brother Darren's wedding.
