Former Hull City skipper Curtis Davies has backed Abu Kamara to make a positive impact at the MKM Stadium following his deadline day move from Norwich City.

Kamara was one of four new arrivals on August 30 along with Carl Rushworth, Kasey Palmer and fellow winger Mohamed Belloumi as the Tigers finished a busy month with 13 new players.

The 21-year-old endured a tough baptism of fire on Friday night when he was handed a first start by Tim Walter against Sheffield United. Despite providing the Tigers' biggest attacking threat in the first half, Kamara was hauled off at half-time along with Ryan Giles as the hosts were comfortably beaten 2-0.

Walter explained afterwards that he felt the youngster was ineffective and that was why he was taken off. But Davies, who played for Cheltenham Town against Kamara when the exciting winger was impressing on loan at Portsmouth last term, believes he will be a success given time, once he adapts to the step up from League One to Championship.

"Having played against him, he's a big threat," Davies said on Sky Sports. "After last season at Portsmouth, doing so well with eight goals and 10 assists - the way he uses the ball, the way he goes at people one-vs-one, he's a really good talent. Left foot, right foot, he's got both.

"We all thought going back to Norwich would be a big thing to now try and show his style in the Championship but Norwich decided he wasn't for them and have sold him to Hull, and I'm sure he will be Hull's gain."
